Europe's Decisive Issues

Immigration, Euro, Ukraine, Brexit,..

Three controversial issues, crucial for the future not only of the EU, have largely dominated the political discussion in Europe for years: Immigration, the euro and Ukraine. The euro crisis seriously splits northern Europe from the south, the refugee crisis the east from the west.

The Brexit, which was decided by the UK citizens in June 2016, as well as regional claims for independence (Scotland, Catalonia,..) are also challenging the European Union. Anti-EU parties in various countries have been calling for further withdrawals from the EU or from the euro zone; regional pro-EU parties are asking for their region's autonomy and for its adherence to the EU.

These crucial issues are dealt with in different ways In the scenarios of "Our New Europe":

1. EU+: “Brussels” in general wants to strengthen its influence through a further centralization and political integration toward an ever closer Union, particularly regarding the euro and immigration. The Union also intends to expand its geographic spere of influence eastwards (Balkans, Turkey, Ukraine). Regional

demands for independence threaten to interfere with this strategy.

2. EU-: Opponents of the EU generally reject these plans; they ask for free trade and more national independence, in particular in the areas of immigration and currency, and and they admonish of a war against Russia.

3. EU*: Crises are used as opportunities to democratically transform the EU into a diverse Europe of the citizens, with and for the citizens, as well as to implement the European peace project.

A solution of these conflicts, accepted and supported by all member coutries, is vitally important for the security, peace and welfare in Europe. So far, howevr, the citizens all over Europe were not given any opportunity, in an Europe-wide referendum, to give their opinion.

"Our New Europe" now invites all citizens throughout Europe to vote for the first time on these issues, which are decisive for Europe's future.
